Cultural events

We embrace all cultures at Jimbelunga and in particular the traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

NAIDOC Week is a major cultural event at Jimbelunga. Each year we mark NAIDOC with an event for residents, staff, families and the community.

Traditional dance performances, art and craft and lunch is an annual calendar event not to be missed. Last year Radio 98.9FM held a live outside broadcast and proved a hit with residents making music requests.

Regular visitors

Jimbelunga believes in connecting within our community and one of doing this is through our Generations Together’ Playgroup. Each week our Child and Family Centre from Waterford West co-ordinates a program at Jimbelunga. The Generations Together Playgroup is held on Wednesday mornings and usually held outside in our landscaped gardens and purpose-built playground. This activity brings together our residents with children to interact with games and morning tea.

The Logan Youth group visits Jimbelunga on a regular basis and the elders enjoy yarning with children and teenagers.

Community visitors program

We know that not everyone is fortunate to have family and friends so we work with the Community Visitors Scheme. This program arranges volunteers from the community to visit our residents on a regular, one-on-one basis. We believe it’s a great way to improve the lives of our residents who may be lonely and socially isolated.

Nursing

Jimbelunga Nursing Centre provides nursing care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Lead by our Director of Nursing, Renee Cole, our nursing care consists of qualified and experienced aged care nurses.

Our nursing care teams have the appropriate number and mix of Registered Nurses and Assistants in Nursing to meet the needs of our residents.

We see our residents as part of our family so we go the extra mile to learn about you; your history, your family, your likes and dislikes, to ensure we’re delivering the best care possible.

All of our nursing staff are registered with the Australian Health Professionals Registration Agency and all Jimbelunga Team members have undergone police and reference checks to ensure the safety of our residents.

Outings

Our residents enjoy a variety of outings throughout the year. Each year our residents get involved with various exhibitions at the Beenleigh Show which is held in September. Our residents enter the arts and craft and gardening sections and in 2018 we won many prizes. It’s a great chance to enjoy the attractions including a train ride, walk through sideshow alley and attend the main ring events.

Each week we assist our residents for a shopping trip to the nearby Beenleigh Marketplace. This is great chance to pick up any additional requirements or treats. Our staff will provide the required mobility support.

Laundry service

All laundry is done onsite in our commercial laundry.  Our service includes washing of all bedding, sheets and personal clothing. There is no fee involved and is a next day return service.

We label clothing items as all clothes need to be properly identified prior to placing the items in resident’s closets. Jimbelunga laundry staff label all new clothing as residents arrive.

Resident clothing requiring special care such as dry cleaning or hand washing, is the responsibility of the family. If a resident is to have clothing that requires special care, the resident or family must provide a laundry hamper in the resident’s room. These items will be left in the hamper for the family to attend to. Please ensure that when bringing in clothing items, only a reasonable amount of clothing is brought.

Jimbelunga staff will attend to small amounts of ironing at no cost, however we encourage the purchase of clothing that do not require ironing. Reviewing the quality of clothes is the responsibility of a family member and should be monitored every few months, so that worn items can be removed and replaced. Some families prefer to do their loved one’s laundry. That’s fine, however using our service can lighten the load a little and you won’t have to worry about if your loved one will run out of clothes in the next day or two.

Weekly concerts and entertainment

We love music and entertainment at Jimbelunga. Music lowers stress levels and is known to improve a range of health conditions. It can help cheer you up, keep you calm and boost your cardio vascular levels.  Music can often been heard in our dining rooms and common areas and our residents enjoy regular indoor and outdoor concerts and entertainment from visiting performers. It’s a great chance to show off your rhythm and moves.

Don’t forget to join us for our happy hour every Friday from 2pm-3pm for a good laugh, music, catch ups, a walk down memory lane and just to enjoy the company of other people in our Jacaranda area.

We serve beer, white and red wine and lemonade with small snacks.

Outdoor Entertaining Areas and Grounds

One of the stand-out features of Jimbelunga is the 6 acres of landscaped grounds which are fully accessible to all residents. The well-manicured lawns are an inviting spot for relaxation or a pleasant stroll and have been designed with comfortable outdoor seating as well as level pathways. The secure gardens are lovely to walk through and provide a space for family members to gather, have a BBQ or allow grandchildren to play in the playground. There are undercover areas with seating and lighting for day and evening use.

There is an inclusion and development of a cultural area including a dry rock river, an array of native plants, a dancing circle and a Kup Murri pit.

Our grounds are kept in tip top shape by our resident groundsman, Bradley Hearn.
