Aged care services on national agenda

ATSICHS Brisbane and Jimbelunga staff recently attended the launch of the National Advisory Group for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Aged Care’s (NAGATSIAC) five year action plan to improve aged care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders.

Our CEO Jody Currie, who is an executive member of NAGATSIAC, along with Jimbelunga Operations Manager Belinda Charles and ATSICHS Brisbane Health Services Director Anna Sciuto headed south to Parliament House in Canberra for the event.

The event launched the Our Care, Our Way, Our Future: Transforming care pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders.

It’s part of a five year plan with a Federal Government commitment to boost funding and improve services for aged care.

Speaking about the Canberra trip, Belinda said it was exciting and an honour to attend the national forum.

“We at ATSICHS Brisbane are in a fortunate position to actively participate in the future direction of aged care services to our community,” she said.

“To be asked to provide information and guidance on how we can improve aged-care services nationally is great reflection of the services we deliver to our Elders at ATSICHS Brisbane and Jimbelunga Nursing Centre.”

The role of NAGATSIAC is to promote the views and aspirations of older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for the development and implementation of Government aged care policy.
